  • Xiquan Dong Receives New $0.5 Million NSF Grant to Study Aerosol Land-Ocean Properties

    Congratulations to Xiquan Dong, Professor of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, who recently received a new NSF grant for "Evaluating the influences of aerosols on low-level cloud-precipitation properties over land and ocean using ground-based observations and WRF simulations." Dong will begin work on this half million (plus) dollar grant in September 2017 with co-PIs Yuk L. Yung from the California Institute of Technology and Tim Logan from Texas A&M.   • Xiquan Dong's Students Shine at AMS Summer Conferences

    Kudos to Professor Xiquan Dong's students who were very busy this summer representing the UA HAS department at three major conferences! Jingjing Tian and Peng Wu received two of only three graduate student awards given to attend the AMS 38th Conference on Radar Meteorology to be held this week in Chicago, Illinois. At the conference, Tian will present a poster, Estimation of liquid water path in stratiform precipitation system using MWR and radar measurements.   • Jennifer McIntosh Co-PI on $1 Million Keck Grant to Study Subsurface Fluid-Rock Systems in the Paradox Basin

    Jennifer McIntosh, Associate Professor of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, is a Co-PI on a new $1 million W.M. Keck Foundation grant with UA Professor Peter Reiners (Geosciences) to study subsurface fluid-rock systems.  With the three-year grant, Reiners, McIntosh, and other team members will integrate geologic, geochemical, geochronologic and hydrogeologic observations to develop a more integrated, interdisciplinary understanding of subsurface fluid-rock systems.     Founding Department Chair, Atmospheric Sciences/Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Has Died at Age 96  Arno Richard "Dick" Kassander, Jr., UA Vice President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus, passed away on July 27, 2017 in Mesa, AZ.
